Thanks for all the advice. I have gone for an Armadillo All Condition so will see how I get on. Just two more questions:

1) Its my rear wheel. My PSI is about 110…..does that sound okay ?

2) When I had my puncture I cycled on it (I know, I know !) so my wheel was a bit scuffed. I have sanded it down but the rim has some small but smooth chinks in it. They are really smooth but would this contribute to an inner tube puncture ? Maybe I should buy a new wheel to be certain it wont happen.

Thanks again for any advice.

Well you should be guided by what's written on the tyre but anything at 90+ would probably be okay. After that it's down to comfort, personal preference and the load the bike is carrying. 110psi isn't outrageous.

If the chinks don't come in to contact with the tube, ie the bead of the tyre will always be between them and the tube, it shouldn't be a problem.

I hope the Armadillo's work out all right for you, they seem to get good reports and I gave them a good try but after trying 6 tyres gave up on them after not learning my lesson after using just a pair of them. I found them to be the worst tyre that I have ever used and would never touch them again. I used to only get about 700 miles out of them before having to change them.

One of them the outer laminate came off, it was replaced under warranty , two of them I had the beading tear off whilst riding, the latest last week on my commuter whilst just using them up, I found that I punctured frequently on them and on returning from rides, it was common to find gashes up to half an inch in the outer laminate.

But at the end of the day, we all ride in different enviroment's and the country lanes I frequent may have been too harsh for them.

Just had a check on a tyre outside with its beading torn off just to confirm I am writing about the same tyre, perhaps the shop where I got them from had a bad batch.

Just did a search online and at the bottom of this review, I am not alone with the delaminating and beading tearing problem.

Wow, that's some problems you have had.
My daily commute is the crap/glass strewn pot holed streets of London and am only on my second pair of All conditions after over 7000 miles in a year and a half. And can count the number of punctures I have had in that time on 1 hand.

There must have been a faulty batch or something.

I had more punctures in 6 weeks riding in london and the SE than ive had in the last 2 years !

No doubt mate. People mending punctures roadside in London is a familiar sight on my commute.

Hence my mantra of checking your tyres for debris after every commute.
It's amazing the crap you can dig out after a single ride. Doing this I am certain has saved me from punctures that may have been.

when it comes to puncture resistant tyres i dont think theres room for a coat of paint between the top brands tbh .

nothing will stop small bits of grit squeezing between rim and tyre wall or stop a snakebite ,

ride cautiously at this time as winter detritus builds up close to kerbsides and in cycle lanes ,

wont be long until they clear up a bit as road sweepers go along and traffic isnt carrying grit and other stuff .
