Something Ti and fast, would make a great training bike (I mostly mountain bike, the road is only there for training on)

It's not so much how much I would spend, rather how much can I spend. I have no upper limit on how much I would spend on bikes and if I had the money I would be the Jay Leno of bikes.

If you had several grand to spend on a new road bike what one would you get? Gearing range? Choice of frame, groupset etc and what would be the reason for your choice? Interested to see what some of you people would spend if you could or already have.
I'd spend about £1000 on a decent frame with 105 groupset and use the rest to take me and the bike on a great cycling holiday ^_^

I rode my work mates tarmac. I was underwelmed with it over an allez.

Aaaaaaah!

I didn't want to hear that. I'm in the process of leaving my job and was presented with a gift voucher for Edinburgh Bike last night. So a new bike might not be as far off as I thought. Do you have an Allez? I've had my one for close on 2 years and have done about 5500 miles. It's showing some signs of wear, but to be honest I cant fault it. I just have this idea that a Tarmac would help take me to the next level.

I had one for a week (it was one size too big so I flogged it). Don't get me wrong the tarmac is better than the allez, especialy with accelaration. But once you are going along I couldn't feel that much difference other than better groupset. I have bigish legs and am used to pulling up large loads, maybe someone else would find the weight and stiffness difference more apparent.

I bought my ideal bike, titanium frame, SRAM Red and strong CX wheels. Built for distance rides, longest one so far 226 miles in under 16 hours moving time.

I have a 2012 allez, which is awesome! it's really stiff and if i wasn't so unfit it's also really fast.

the tarmac has had some good reviews at the club, one guy seems happy with his that he just bought.

OT though if I had the money i'd get a focus izalco pro 3. It has the same frame and forks as the team bikes - add bits over time and you've got an amazing machine
