If you had several grand to spend on a new road bike what one would you get? Gearing range? Choice of frame, groupset etc and what would be the reason for your choice? Interested to see what some of you people would spend if you could or already have.

I have the road bikes I want... a carbon fibre race machine wouldnt be much use to me at my age. If I had a few grand going begging I would start to look at 'bents though.

My imagination is limited by what I already know. I have an Allez that probably meets most of my needs, so if I had the money going begging I'd be going for a Tarmac with a high-end gearset and wheels.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I'm going to get the titanium equilbrium frameset when it comes out next year and throw some sram red on it with fulcram 5 wheels. I am already saving up.

I am having to downsize my house if i can sell as i do not want the wife to go back to work with her health issues and we have been on short wages for about 3 years, a new bike of any kind is a dream .Thats why i got my boardman comp on C2W last year and it looks like its got to last a long time .

Surprised no-ones opted for dura-ace Di2!

That will be a serious contention with my next bike, but it won't be for a long time yet.

My CAAD 10 cost me £2800 including an upgrade at the point of purchase. It then got 'blinged' to in excess of £3k  Although I have scaled it back now to make the bike more durable and ergo more usable in the real world

Can I warrant spending anymore than this on a bike? No.

Do I do it justice? No.

Does it make me go any faster/farther/longer/harder? No.

Will I spend this much in the future? Hell yes. (if and when I can but I suspect we'll be on third of fourth generation Di2 by then).

In between here and there
For the moment I am lusting after a Project One Trek Domane customed everything inc paint job. Will it make me ride like Sparticus, yup for sure as the "you tube" advert suggests...

I dont race so would I want to spend several grand on a top notch fancy bike If i had the cash? mmm probably

Always nice to have the best even if you may not utilize it to its full capacity. Currently have a Scott CR1 about £1600 when new but if I had the money I would probably have some sort of high end TT bike simply because I want something that converts my physical effort into raw speed as efficiently as possible. I have no intention of competing.
Not so into speeding when im mountain biking however.
