I have a Carradice too, a Nelson Longflap and a support bracket. Expensive (to me anyway) but good quality and should last forever.

If you have a carbon seat post it is not a good idea to clamp a rack onto it as the seat post can ................. snap.

Exactly. Carbon seat post here, so I use a full rack with a similar Topeak pack as Potsy (my bag is the older model).

If you want a full rack, you can always get P clips from your LBS - these are P shaped clips with a rubbersied coating that attach to your stays.

Mine's a lowsaddle (longflap) - the bag goes on this bike using ViVa Bag Loops from Velo Orange. The usual commuter has a Brooks with bag loops.

Hi,

The bikes Im looking at (Boardman comp or Spash allez) dont have panier lugs, and to be honest paniers would be mor ethan I want.

Not sure about the Boardman but the Allez range up to Elite Compact should have rack mount points on the seat stays and also on the rear dropouts (normally filled with a tight rubber bung).

A lightweight rear rack with just about any rack pack should solve most needs.

I have a Boardman Road Team, and have just fitted a Topeak Rack (V Type) as show here.  Used it for first time this morning and it was fine with all my commuting junk in it.  I will try and get a picture up of it on the bike.

I've gone from bumbag,to bar bag and now the current Rack and panier option. All have their good and bad points but the latest option is my favourite,I like the fact it's a sleek rack pack when only carrying a small amount, but can also turn into decent sized paniers when needed.
Didn't like the bumbag in the Summer but was OK in the cooler temps, bar bag was fine but a little small.

newb question...

the handlebar bags, do they come with the attachments, or are they seperate?

i've seen a few, but either the connectors are inside the bag or i'm being thick ( or both  )

is there a sort of 'standard' connector??

Mine came with the handlebar connectors, which I have left on even though I'm not using the bag at the minute,as it has a handy little place to mount my cycle computer.
I have the Topeak compact one which is QR too.
