Road bike buying advice for newbie

So it is catching in the front derailleur cage. Couple of questions.

Can you push the cage out by hand? If not it would indicate that the high limit screw needs backing off a bit.

If you can push the cage by hand, is there adjustment left in the barrel adjuster to increase the cable tension.?

Yes that’s it (I’m learning the component names 😂). Can’t push it by hand.

Which is high and which is low? Excuse all the sand, bike is due a clean tomorrow! I’ve fiddled with all limitscrews to no avail, out on a ride now and it’s worse.

High is marked H, it will need unscrewing a bit.

Ha yeah, I know that much! Can’t see H or L on the front ones, only the back.

I would have thought it the one further away from the frame, as that is the direction the cage is moving when going onto the high ring?

It depends on the exact location of the stop in the parallelogram. To be able to tell for sure you'll need the model number to find the manual in shimano's website here:
