I just read the news report today but it is a shame to see such a talented person die doing something which they enjoyed. He crashed while competing in the North West 200 in Northern Ireland

He died with his parents Stuart and Dee and girlfriend Lisa at his bedside.

Seeing the crash I'm surprised he even made it to hospital. Such a horrible way to die
Video is hard to watch
Yes, it's really sad. Any chance of putting a warning above the video? It's pretty disturbing and people should know that so they can decide whether to watch it.
I put one there but I did think putting "horror crash" would have been enough to say its nothing short of pretty farking nasty.

I've just looked it up and saw a video on YouTube which has slowed it down (like the video in the OP), but then repeated it several times.

Sorry, but seeing the once was bad enough, but to show it several times after that?? That is just wrong!!
As you can imagine, the comments section is a little bit..... Err...... Colourful!

Nah. Its a link to a video of a person suffering a violent death. Its mawkish, its in very poor taste and its disrespectful to him and his grieving family. Theres simply no justification for posting it on a cycling forum.

Agreed.

One of the hazards of racing on public roads. No run offs or air fencing and street furniture to bounce off when you drop it. From watching the way he slid down the road I'd say he was already unconcious before he slid to a stop.
All that added to the speed of the bikes on that section of the route. In my teens/twenties I spent time in the St Johns Ambulance Assoc and did duty on that part of the course many times. The speeds were beyond belief considering that the race is on public roads.

The riders who take part in these races are not exactly your weekend wannabe racers.
Most of them are fine and don't have anything happen to them. However when it does it's near always bad hitting a curb, wall or going off a hill.
That being said they knows the risks and should know their limits. In all, like he said after his crash last year he wouldn't of got back on the bike if he didn't enjoy what he was doing.

Really bad

As for taking it down, we can all choose not to click the link if we don't want to

If nothing else it highlights the very real risks of high speed motorcycling and the bravery of those professional racers who look death in the face at every turn.
