96 apparently. He also loved old clocks and could dismantle one and put it back together again. A good man by all accounts.
And it only took him just a minute....

He didn't seem all that young when he was on Sale of the Century, and that was over forty years ago. He seemed a bit vain to me, but I admired his willingness to keep on working.

Hesitation?
A correct challenge... you have forty seven seconds remaining on the subject of A Broacasting Legend.

Last year (or it might have been the year before), I was privileged enough to see him at the Cheltenham Literary Festival, when they put on a short session of "Just a Minute". Afterwards, Nicholas spent a few minutes taking questions from the audience. One ignorant oik brought gasps from the rest of the audience by asking "who's going to present "Just a Minute" when you die?" Fair play to him, although clearly shocked, he took it in his stride. Not sure I would have been able to. I guess we'll find out the answer now. Whoever it is, they'll have a hard act to follow.

Indeed.
I can't think of anyone who could honestly follow NP, he was that good. They'll replace him, certainly, but the replacement will have to plough his/her own path because you can't emulate the man.

It's a bit like replacing Humphrey Lyttleton on ISIHAC when he died. Jack Dee is a good host but not a patch on Humph.

Gyles Brandreth has filled in for him a few times. Apart from the charm, sharp wit and thick skin, the new host needs the mental dexterity to remember all the repetitions... amazing that Nicholas still had this at 96 :notworthy:
