Far more than that

It was sad to hear of his death on the news.
He had a very long career and was still as bright as a button in his 90's.
I can remember him playing the part of the straight in the Arthur Haynes and Benny Hill shows.
I am sure we will all miss him .

Surprisingly talented as an actor too. Anyone remember "Curse of Fenric" ? This was a truly brilliant and really quite scary Doctor Who story in the,Sylvester McCoy era. (whilst the series was struggling by then, Curse of Fenric was a fantastic highlight). Parsons played a genteel vicar who was doubting his faith in a really subtle and poignant performance. He'd not really done much acting for decades then turned in a performance as good as anything I've seen, and a real contrast to the jolly presenter persona he's better known for.

Though I never got to see much of his work I had full knowledge of him. I've listened to just a minute off and on and always enjoyed the way he held everything together never one to knock back the fun taken out of him in fact he lived for it.
Out of many of the old hands of entertainment he was one of a very few who never become someone to rub you up the wrong way when they popped up an TV. Which alone is a good measure of the man.

Not my cup of tea, but he did some great stuff prior to Sale of the Century. His straight man to Arthur Haynes was brilliant, although it was a prime example of type-casting.

Oh no.

I worked with him on Into the Woods at the Phoenix in London.

2 stories:

He played the narrator in the show and at the start of the second Act he's killed by the giant dropping him from a great height. On the first preview night, I was standing beside Nicholas when the dummy representing him hit the stage. Somewhat to our surprise, the audience cheered. I glanced across and Nicholas...
BZZZZ repetition of Nicholas.

You were two knicker-less ^_^
