Grew up listening to Johnnie Walker, firstly on Radio 1 and more recently his Sunday afternoon show on Radio 2.
I stopped listening to Radio 2 many years ago during the era of Chris Evans (couldn't lace Johnnie's boots) on the breakfast show - but I always made a point of tuning in on a Sunday afternoon 3pm to 5pm to listen to a real DJ..
Thank you for the music, Johnnie!

I always used to enjoy his 'Drivetime' show, with the flirting with Sally Boazeman
Plus the 'Sounds Of The 70s' was always worth a listen!!

Drivetime was never the same once he left. Along with Tony Blackburn he was the last of the pirates still broadcasting. A brilliant DJ who understood that the music came first and he never talked over it, unlike many of them.

I used to listen to Johnnie Walker on Drivetime.

He was one of those radio broadcasters whose voice I could recognise instantly, but I only realised when I read the articles about his death that I hadn't a clue what he looked like.

I liked it with Stuart Maconie, but even though he's a Lancastrian (Wigan), I've a lot of time for him
A good writer (a few excellent books) & his show with Mark Radcliffe was always good fun
