Noticed this this morning, the tires are Continental Grand Prix 4 Season Road and are about 5 months1000miles old.

looks terminal to me.
If the tube starts poking through you are going to have a blow out.
If you need to ride home on the tyre I would recommend that you put a boot in there.

I don't know the tyre but I'd be concerned about a possible blow out. Not concerned enough to whip it off immediately, but concerned enough to try sticking a patch onto the inside of the tyre wall just to beef it up a little.

If its the rear I'd pump up the tyre a bit and see if the tube is poking through at all, if so bin unfortunately. If its the front I wouldn't take any chances at all, I'd remove it immediately. If you need to get home in the meantime tyre boot it as suggested above but don't rely on that long term.

:stop: Definitely replace - I wouldn't ride on that.

Just out of interest, how old is the tyre? To me that sidewall doesn't look in great condition even without the tear.

5 months / 1000 miles, says in the OP! If that was my tyre it would be replaced, mainly cos I have no fricking idea how long it'd last till I had an accident. Not worth the risk.

:shy: Oops. That'll teach me to pay more attention.

Edit: I stand by what I said though - that sidewall doesn't look in great condition.

yep - that's pretty much what the side wall looks like from new - the weave is visible, makes it look warn but I don't think it is

Here is another question - Iv just booted the tyre, and noticed that the rip is only on the outer surface and has not gone all the way though - is it still worth replacing ?
