The man who was arrested has had his daughter in law defending him stating he is not well enough to have done it.
Normally I don't speculate on crime before the conviction but in this case its rather interesting, its still sad that the tree has gone but at least it wasn't something serious to speculate on. A good bit of gossip to chew on!

The tree was felled in the early morning of 28th Septimber 2023 in an act of vandalism.

Exactly, Robin to his Batman.
Something else as well, apparently though both have grudges with National Trust it's English Heritage who maintains the wall and has the most interest in the tree. So didn't really hit their target.
