A=3,B=4...G=9
May has the fewest number of letters (3), September the most (9).
January ( 7 letters) = E, February (8 letters) = F etc etc

A Man And A Lift.
A man who lives on the tenth floor takes the lift down to the first floor every morning and goes to work. In the evening, when he comes back; on a rainy day, or if there are other people in the lift, he goes to his floor directly. Otherwise, he goes to the seventh floor and walks up three flights of stairs to his apartment.
Explain why?
He's a very social fitness-fanatic: sometimes the fitness urge wins, and other times he just can't help the yack-fest! :laugh:

Philosopher's Clock
One absentminded ancient philosopher forgot to wind up his only clock in the house. He had no radio, TV, telephone, internet, or any other means for telling time. So he traveled on foot to his friend's place few miles down the straight desert road. He stayed at his friend's house for the night and when he came back home, he knew how to set his clock.
How did he know?
His friend had a clock, and when he returned, he estimated his speed of travel, then set his own clock accordingly.

He knew what time the sun set/rose.

Nope!
How would June-July(4 letters) March-April(5 letters) be fitted in?

Should have explained myself in more detail.
You gave us...

A B C D E F G
J F M A M J J A S O N D

So we say:
A=3
B=4
C=5
D=6
E=7
F=8
G=9

All months of the year, when spelt out, have between 3 letters (May) and 9 letters (September).
Thus my answer, EFCCABBDGEFF, breaks down as...

E = 7, January has 7 letters
F = 8, February has 8 letters
C = 5, March has 5 letters
C = 5, April has 5 letters
A = 3, May has 3 letters
B = 4, June has 4 letters
B = 4, July has 5 letters
D = 6, August has 6 letters
G = 9, September has 9 letters
E = 7, October has 7 letters
F = 8, November has 8 letters
F = 8, December has 8 letters

Unless you meant that A-G, as a series of 7 letters in total, had to be arranged over the months of the year?

No.
Two sets of letters given, with the question being how would you arrange the top set over the lower set.
