If everyone wears hi-viz, they don't stand out. That's why I wear black.

Has anyone else noticed the amount of people who wear reflective vests while cycling? It's very sensible, but while cycling home through Bristol after a night shift this morning, I was struck by how many of these sensible commuter type people then wear a rucksack over the top of it!!!!!!

Has it not dawned on them that they are simply covering up the reflective vest?????

..amnd thats why I bought a ruccy with reflectives and bright red strips on it.

I also have the added benefit of using 3 rear lights.

I've done this, it's still better than nothing. The hi-viz is still visible from the front and sides, and partially from behind unless you have a huge rucksack.

I went out for a 5 minute ride a couple of hours back and was heading down an unlit road towards a junction (I'm wearing the new camera to test it, plus all me lights and nightvision top) of what is basically a crossroads. Theres a car on the adjacent road facing towards me and the drivers lights "blinked" as a virtually unlit cyclist road past him. He had the faintest red rear light, dark clothes and no front lamp.

I turn left and I'm travelling down another poorly lit road and see a guy on a bike coming from the other way - no lights, reflectors or bright clothing. Guy had no helmet on so if he gets hit its contributary negligence. I remember thinking "I wonder if the camera will pick this up?"

I think 5 min cycles are bad for your health, I went out and noticed the new signed cycle routes in my area .

I find I can normally see around the rucksack.

Well all the lights in the world don't help if the driver doesn't look..... this old chestnut....

I don't wear hi viz vests as you look like an every day Jo Bloggs - I wear bright bike kit with reflective bits on (bright blue/red), my bike is lit up like Blackpool illuminations, and my rucksack has strategicaly placed (car driver eye level) flashers.....still I was run over.......

I think these Ninjas have a better chance than those that are 'well lit'....

I came fairly close to hitting another cyclist on Monday night, I was taering along the Mile End Road and saw reallty rather late some herbery crawling along in very dull clothes and no lights whatsover, he was hidden and then revealed by some rather patchy street lighting, I had just time to swerrve round him and utter an oath

I get to look out over Borough High Street from our staff room, I can see hi viz tops on cyclists from a long way off, I'm amazed that people can make an argument against them for the day time, they're usually refelctive too for the night time

The nightvision is superb at night, far too warm for it laready though, it did get a good outing this year at least

That happened to me,no lights and I very nearly had a very bad accident. While I can say that has never happened with someone properly lit or donning hi-viz stuff.(or both)

I came close to hitting another cyclist tonight too, he had no lights or hivis either. He chose to swerve randomly from one side of the road to the other no handed, he seemed to be on a different planet and not aware of his surroundings at all. It was down a sharp hill so he was going a decent speed but not fast, respect to the drivers for not loosing patience with him.

Last night there seemed to be droves of barely visible cyclists out and aboput. One had a light which was seeming to go on and off not flashing. Turned out when we passed them that the light was attached to the seat post below the wheel height!!!! And yet the seat post was out a long long way. Very weird.

I do this HiVis yellow and 3M stick ons plus a fireflute LED (don't seem to make them anymore) a foot long cylinder with about 20 LEDs in it strapped to the back.

Why is it that almost all manufacturers seem to think we want to wear black
