I turn left and I'm travelling down another poorly lit road and see a guy on a bike coming from the other way - no lights, reflectors or bright clothing. Guy had no helmet on so if he gets hit its contributary negligence. I remember thinking "I wonder if the camera will pick this up?" xx(

If this guy gets hit, he should be paying the driver compensation (if he survives)

Why dosen't somebody make a dayglo rucksack with a red tail light in it? As for cyclists with no lights dressed in black!!!! I was riding home from work last year at 01:00hrs and saw (just) a cyclist in black with no lights. That must be against the law?

I don't wear hi viz vests as you look like an every day Jo Bloggs

I reckon that's an advantage though, commuters in cars will think "he's just a regular guy trying to get home from work, same as me", rather than "bloody cyclists blocking the road, etc etc"

I put my hi-vis vest no my rucksack (straps thorugh the arm holes); it has the added advantage of keeping all the s***t off my rucksack. My employer makes plenty of vests available so when one gets dirty I just pick up a new one.

I've worn hi viz.

I've worn all black cycling garments with strategically placed shiney reflective bits.

I've worn dark civies.

I turn my lights on when it gets dark. No noticable difference.

Pop on a cycle helmet and a brightly coloured cycling jersey however and I might as well be a red rag to a bull.

Maybe the batteries are dead.

My post was badly put.

I was trying to say that I have:

- I've worn hi viz.
- I've worn all black cycling garments with strategically placed shiney reflective bits.
- I've worn dark civies.

And I've not noticed any difference.

I always use lights at night and poor visibility, irrespective of what I'm wearing. I carry spare batteries so that I'm always running on a fresh set.

This week, for a change, I've been wearing a bright red top, instead of my stealth black with reflective patches. So far I've felt far more uncomfortable with more near misses than usual. Therefore I can conclusively reveal that most motorists must have some bull in them.

Back to black for me.

Seriously though, something reflective, and lots of lights is the answer.
