I've got Altura Night Vision waterproof gloves that come with a sealskinz inner for colder weather. I've been happy with them down to about -2 degrees, maybe -4 if no wind, but am still looking for some more extreme gloves for the coldest mornings - we've had several days here at -6 in recent years and my fingers get pretty damn painful at that temp even in these gloves.

For most of the year there's Aldi fingerless mitts (about £3-£4 a pair). Get several pairs because you'll always lose the left ones. (One day science will discover why this happens.) I like Endura Full Montys when the weather gets a bit more iffy. When the temperature is sub-zero ski gloves rule. (Aldi's £5 ski gloves seem as good as any.) I would spend more but these do the job so there doesn't seem to be any point. I think with gloves fit is the most important factor - they're like shoes in that respect - if they don't fit properly get something else.
OT, I had on my Planet X pair (weather proof) last night, they were just a tad too warm, in retrospect the Full Monty's would have been perfect.

I tried on a pair of Sealskinz in a shop on Skye in September for the first time and the closest I've come to them is the Aldi winter gloves I bought in their sale a couple of weeks back - had them on yesterday for the commute and my hands were almost too warm - almost...
