Hi everyone,

I'm after some glove recommendations, 2 pairs in fact. A full finger pair for autumn/winter, wind proof is a must but I don't like really thick bulky stuff. I also need a fingerless pair for the warmer months since my Specialized Pro gloves have disintegrated in just 6 months! Don't buy these! http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDetails.asp?productID=53793&categoryID=216

Budget, not quite in the Rapha league but don't mind spending for quality

Cheers

Hi,

I'm a cheapskate and for my road bike get gloves from sportsdirect :

For my folder I use £1 / 99p shop cycling gloves, they don't last long .....

Try Lidl ski gloves, about £5 a pair if I remember correctly. They may not be particularly waterproof but they are certainly warm. Also, the lining doesn't get into a hellish maze when you take them off, unlike Sealskinz that cost 30 quid and are not waterproof.

Summer mitts: my only pair from Endura started falling apart within a fortnight. Avoid.

I always thought that "Waterproof" in the description meant that your hands stayed dry when it rained. I'm on my third pair now (Altura Night Vision, Sealskin & Scott) and non appear to work. (Another pet hate is that the finger linings "follow your fingers out" and it's a b*****er to get them back again)
So....... can anyone recommend any please ? (A pair of Marigolds under a pair of old fashioned wooley mits until then)

I use some pearl Izumi pittard elite thermals for cold temps, very nice gloves.

For when it's below zero I use castelli diluvio neoprene gloves, these are super warm but your hands can sweat in them even in freezing temps.

Both pairs of gloves are not padded and you can operate everything whilst wearing them. Unlike my sealskinz which were useless.

For mitts I would have reccomended Spesh BG mitts, they've never let me down but they seem to for you maybe a different type but BG is a possibility

I really like my Endura Strike for waterproof and colder days and Endura Dexter on less wet days. They were just begining to fail at the end of last winter after 6 hard years and I'll probably go for the same. I heard a lot of contrary reviews and they are very hit or miss

For most of the year there's Aldi fingerless mitts (about £3-£4 a pair). Get several pairs because you'll always lose the left ones. (One day science will discover why this happens.) I like Endura Full Montys when the weather gets a bit more iffy. When the temperature is sub-zero ski gloves rule. (Aldi's £5 ski gloves seem as good as any.) I would spend more but these do the job so there doesn't seem to be any point. I think with gloves fit is the most important factor - they're like shoes in that respect - if they don't fit properly get something else.

Summer ones are Pearl Izumi and are very good. Winter ones are Endura. Also good.

Endura reflex gloves, or Thermastretch by Altura... if both are still made. Good for warm fingers, not as good for wet weather though.

My summer mitts are Bontragers.

Gore make some great gloves and if you shop around you can often pick up a bargain.

I have a pair of Retro tech mitts, because I'm a tart:rolleyes:,

a red windstopper pair, to match my Phantom jacket, because evey tart likes to co-ordinate;)

and a pair of Countdown goretex gloves, because.... they keep my hands warm and dry:smile:

I have some Giro fingerless gloves and some full fingered gloves too. These are the best gloves I've owned as I've tried others which have come apart. For cooler but dry Autumn days I bought a pair of ski glove liners from Decathlon which I wear underneath the fingerless gloves and give you another option.

Have a pair of Sealskinz ultra grip gloves. Have been using them on every ride lately as fingers are getting very cold. They are the best and most comfortable gloves i have had for autumn/winter riding. Not too bulky and great control. They fit perfect too. Worth measuring your hands to be sure to get right fit though. Also worth noting they go over your sleeve rather than under.

I do use my snowboarding gloves in serious cold though. They are bulky and cumbersome but if you are stupid enough to ride in the snow and ice then you are willing to put up with a winter glove along with 5 layers! ;)
