Rear wheel problems

I used to work there oops! Part time not on the cycle side but fitting car bulbs ,batteries , and wiper blades , in all weathers and in the dark with cars whizzing past you.
Some of the chaps are pretty good but as was mentioned a lot are on minimum wage or just above.
The problem with the rear axle sounds as though the threads may be stripped and are not holding properly, it could be poor quality materials or someone may have over tightened at some point.
If you find that you are not getting anywhere you could ask to see the manager about the problem. I found that they were pretty reasonable.
I left by the way I've gone back to panel beating / spraying.

Nothing against Halfords but the guys at the cycle club always used to referred to it as a car shop and that was thirty years ago.I'd prefer to go to a shop that deals mainly in bikes.I've bought four out of my last five bikes from Evans and have generally had very few problems.Bikes are generally very well setup.

I like their ratchet combination spanners I found them useful in the bodyshops long before I went to work there. I discovered that they had a really good looking

Lightweight cycle many years ago I think it was made by a well known British company.

A cycle that cost £130 is never going to be the most pleasant ride in terms of comfort or quality - but whatever the price it still had to be "fit for purpose" Riding to and from work would be a reasonable expectation of purpose (the black route through Dalby Forest wouldn't be!) and as such Halford need to rectify this for you. It is not just about the inconvenience, there is a safety issue when a wheel comes loose. Once is not acceptable (once is enough to get you killed) twice is really not acceptable and three times is absolutely atrocious. Take it back to Halfords and ask to speak to the manager. Be polite - but don't be fobbed off. If they tell you the manager is not present, ask to speak to the most senior person present. Take their full name and ask them to ensure that the manager contacts you ASAP as you will otherwise need to take your concerns to trading standards. When you do get to speak to the manager, explain the above, make it clear that they have already attempted to put the fault right on 3 occasions and each time, you have been endangered and inconvenienced as a result of their negligence. Make it clear that you want the problem rectified and that you have lost confidence in the product you purchased and in their ability to make it fit for purpose. I would hope that such a reasonable approach might result in an upgrade, or some courtesy gift to recompense you for your inconvenience - but at an absolute minimum, I would expect the rear wheel to be replaced

It probably wouldn't last a month on my commute.Even with bikes I've bought I've always upgraded the components. At that price Halfords are looking to make a profit so you can bet the components are not going to be of the best quality.
