Is catching the odd spoke when in big rear cog - what can i do to stop it hppening??

Cheers

Could be a bent rear dérailleur hangar. Ask your LBS to fix it, should be cheap, or if you fancy giving it a go yourself, you can buy tools to straighten it yourself.

hang the bike up off ground, put your chain on the biggest cassette sprocket turn wheel very slowly, carefully push derailleur towards wheel with your thuimb,if chain touches a spoke let it spring back then adjust the limit screws.

Best way to adjust limit screw is with the gear change cable disconnected from derailleur once the chain/derailleur cant travel in either direction more than it needs to to engage highest and lowest gears then reconnect the cable and adjust cable tension to suit

Had the same problem with a newly fitted derailleur. Was sure I had set the limiter screw right but the mech was rubbing off spokes.

One thing to note though, I never noticed this when setting it up. It was actually riding the bike up a hill in the big sprocket while sat in the saddle. I'm thinking my heavy weight made the rear wheel flex slightly pushing the spokes a smidgeon.
So if/when you adjust the limiter screw go out for a ride and check its set right rather than doing it in the house and expecting it to be fine.
