Denby Dale can claim to be the massive pie capital of the world, having baked at least 11 communal pies since 1788, the largest of which was 40 foot long and weighed 12 tons and served approx 22000 people. The tin for the 1964 pie was used as a boat beforehand and still stands as a flower bed in front of the aptly named Pie Hall in the village

George Plantagenet, Duke of Clarence, met a bizarre and tragic end on February 18, 1478 at the age of 28.
Condemned to death for high treason by his own brother, George was sentenced to a private execution in the Tower of London. The unusual manner of his death has become the stuff of legend - allegedly, he was drowned in a large barrel of malmsey wine, a sweet vintage that was reportedly his favorite drink.

As immortalised by Vincent Price, for those of us with long memories:

A man put a 2 foot long eel up his bottom. He had to have it surgically removed after it ate through his intestines.

The same man asked me if I wanted to try it.
I told him I couldn't be arsed.

The News is full of Rory Mcilroy "winning" the green jacket at the Masters (well done to him).
However, to be accurate he only gets to borrow it for 12 months and must hand it back next year. Assuming he attends next years Masters he can still 'borrow' it during the comp but only to wear around the clubhouse.

Many people look forward to seeing the 1st Swallow of Spring.
How many people realise the little Swallow has flown 6,000 miles from Africa, non stop, sleeping on the wing.
Come late September they and their young are off to Africa.
The young have hardly left the nest but something tells them they must head to Africa and something in their brain guides them there.
Amazing.
