New Zealand has only had a human population for less than 800 years.
That includes Māori tribes, not just Western explorers.
Australia has had humans for over 50,000 years.
North America has only been populated for around 14,000 years.

Yes, I believe New Zealand was the last major landmass (bar Antarctica) to be inhabited. The Aborigines weren't great (or even average) seafarers so never bother to make the trip across the Tasman. They only inhabited Tasmania as it was connected by land to mainland Aus back in the day. The Polynesians, who had better sea legs, eventually got as far south as NZ to establish the Maori population.

Another NZ true factoid is:

All of its surviving native land mammals can fly, yet several of its native birds can't.

Iceland is the only European country to commercially grow bananas.

Not a "true" factoid, but an urban myth

Italy and Greece both grow bananas commercially, producing a few thousand tonnes a year. Italian bananas are mainly grown in Sicily. I think Crete is the largest producer for Greece.

And Iceland hasn't grown them commercially since the 1960's.

I'll pass your feedback on to the big hairy Icelander peddling this myth...
