Ummmmmmmm, not sure how. I am pretty hands on and can adapt to most things however really could not get on with this. I congratulate you on getting yours to work however I would still never buy one again.
PS your other threads regarding Chickens has really got me keen on the idea and I am seriously considering this. As a matter of interest did your other half make the run / coup or did you buy one ?
I cannot take credit for anything technical & bike related, as I have my own personal bike mechanic that does such stuff, Mr Wafflycat. Obviously he is the best bike mechanic around
Bought the run: it was flat-packed, part assembled. Although it was pre-treated timber, I gave it a couple of extra coats of preservative (pet safe stuff) before final assembly.
Got it here It was *many* pounds cheaper here than even online. We could probably have made one cheaper, but not by much and then there would have been even more time taken to build from scratch and we couldn't afford the time out to do that. Got the hens from the Battery Hen Welfare Trust for the princely sum of a 50p per hen minimum donation.
Completed hen house & run
One of the things I found is that when shopping around for a hen house/run combo, buy something that is supposedly specifically designed for hens and the price goes UP. Often it goes up a lot. The other thing I've found is that, IMO, quite often the number of birds a hen house/run is advertised as being suitable for is overestimated. Stuff the size of what I have can be advertised as being suitable for about 6-8 hens. There's no way I'd put that many hens in what I've got. IMO, three *absolute* maximum for the space.
Mr Wafflycat has, however, given himself a summer task, and he's designed a run extension, to at least double the space The Laydeez have. He's looking forward to doing this as he can do it as and when, rather than be rushed about it.
