Finally got the chance to try the alternative freehub on my XT hub body.
Frustratingly it doesn't fit!
The mounting splines on the hub body have exactly the same profile, but the XT uses 15 splines while there are only 12 splines on the Ultegra freehub. No amount of bodging is going to overcome that so looks like I am stuck with machining cassettes down to the MTB dimensions unless I stumble across another freehub that will fit.
Oh well, anyone need a cut price freehub for their Ultegra FH-6800 QR hub, part No Y49398060? £20 inc postage........
