Because it sounds better than "Ludwig"! Have you thought this out? Shouting "come here Ludwig" in a busy park is going to get a few .
I have clients with dogs called: Spider Blossom, Charley Farley, Colin, Bunnikins, Poothy, Aardvark, Algernon, Sausage, Fifi, and all sorts. I reckon that Ludwig is a pretty normal name after that lot.
Anyway

It's a name that I grew up with. Hubster thinks that it's a fab name.

I should think that your Hendrix is far easier to groom than a BMD without that massive amount of coat to sort out. What's his moulting like?

Oh yes, far easier than a BMD! I'm testing my memory but his coat seems shorter than our old black lab from years ago, certainly doesn't comb the same. He's certainly moulting a bit at the moment but it's quite manageable, there's no carpets of fur building up in the house! We haven't gotten ourselves into a routine of brushing him properly yet, mainly because until the last couple of weeks it seemed pointless when we did try it so that probably says something about it.

Cousin has a 5/6 year old Bernese/ Lab X rescue... she's totally bonkers but lovely and slowly calming down. Very possessive of food including anything found and eats everything when out.
The dog's been to the vet as she went lame last week, vet suspects bone cancer which is breaking my cuz's heart... waiting for biopsy.

Sad to hear  While we were talking about getting a dog I kept thinking of the black lab we had when I was younger, he was a great dog, must've lived to be about 10 or so I guess but in the end he was quite poorly and the vets diagnosed Leukaemia. Heart breaking to greet your dog after he's spent a couple days in the vets getting tests and despite being so ill he's still excited to see you and wagging his tail. Fingers crossed for a better outcome.

That's quite a selection of doggie names there. Our adopted Jack Russell/Shi Tzu was re-named Jake, not mine but Mrs Accy's and our daughter's choice. I gave him my own name which i use when taking him for a walk or down the pub...It's Naughty Boy. When we got him he was a year old and very mischievous so my daughter kept saying "you're a very naughty boy" to him, so it stuck in my mind. I don't care how daft it sounds so Ludwig maybe isn't so bad!

We used to have a semi feral cat that would answer to 'oy' as we said that to him a lot when he came indoors. Scratching on the furniture 'oy', picking a fight with the GSD 'oy' and so on and so forth. Naughty Boy seems a far more sensible option ^_^

Ludwig has put on nearly 200g since we've had him. Vet is mightily impressed. I reckon that this time next week, he won't fit in the big jug on the kitchen scales and we'll have to use the wok instead.

And how is he doing now?
He's bloody huge. He's outgrown his 16" jumper and now has his first proper collar, a whippet one. It's just a smidge big but it'll be fine, he will grow into it. His first coat is stupidly small so he's now having Millie's old coat and she has a new one. By next Autumn, he will be in the big greyhound coats that we have after the last one. He is now way bigger than our little Jack Russell. Not quite as big as our Parson's Jack, but she is 17" tall so very big for her breed.

Ludwig really wasn't working for us so we've called him Toffee. We've had a Toffee before but never mind. Toff answers to his name, he's toffee coloured. His name change happened with his first week with us. Far nicer name.

Here he is, next to the TV remote for some scale.

We have finally found a food to suit him. He's on James Wellbeloved, everything else gives him the skitters. He's nearly housetrained and only has the occasional accident, generally at 3am when everyone else is asleep. He loves the garden and has huge play fights with Poco the little Jack. Billy is totally oblivious to Toffee's attempts to play with him but it quite happy to act as a mattress when Toff sleeps on top of him. Hounds are funny like that. Millie dog has duffed him up a few times. He will try and nick her food, or her bed. She's 18 and very much the top dog and takes no rubbish of anyone, especially some 4 and a bit month old puppy.

We are pretty confident that he was about 8 weeks when he came. His big teeth are starting to arrive now, as well as his boy-bits. He's probably about 17 or 18 weeks now.
