:bravo:Bravo TL76!

Just to be sure, let all the air out and go round the tyre pressing the bead towards the middle of the wheel well.. Do this on both sides. If there is any part of the tube caught between the bead and the rim, you will see it.
If it's OK, pump it up.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I had to practice this myself earlier today it is not a good thing to mention the "P" word lol.
Ahh its all this threads fault, i had a pinch flat blowout today when i stone shot out from under the rear tyre , lucky it was only the back one as i was in a group or i could have caused carnage with a front blowout.

Now that is strange mine was also a rear ! and also on the return home passed 4 others with same problem ! it seems cycle chats range covers some distance lol.

My tyres say 700x23c the guy at halfords gave me a tube saying 700 18-25c....... Is this wrong...... I basically can not see away this much tube fits on this tyre

Wheel / tyre and tube sizes have a number in the format xxx-yy where xxx is the diameter of the wheel and is fixed for any wheel (the tyre and wheel MUST match)

The yy is the width of the tyre, and can vary.

Your tyre is 700 mm in diameter and the tyre is 23 mm across.

Inner tubes expand, so need to be less tolerant. The tube you were sold is small enough to fit an 18 mm tyre without being too bulky to fit inside the narrow tyre, but can expand safely to be used in a 25 mm tyre.

(Inner tubes can quite safely be used to much larger tyre widths, although it is good practice to match the tube to tyre)

.. and my tip?

Align the tyre with the valve, so it is always in the same position.

Use a letter or number on the tyre.

That way when you get a p*nct*re you can find the hole in the tube, and lay on top of the tyre, aligning the same place. This will then identify where you have to check the tyre for sharp bits, instead of havingto check the whole tyre to find.

Unless it is the middle of the night and it is raining, in which case you might lack motivation.

I only ever see roadside repairs as a "Get me home"

The tyre is always checked thoroughly under good lighting when I get home

There's just something about a Puncture that can play mind games with you. I really struggled with getting tyre on/ off tube out etc at first so I decided to slay my demons about this onerous task by practicing (lots) in my garage. However sat in the garage on a garden chair with the radio on. a coffee to hand and faffing about with bits of rubber is all well and good. When I get a flat and I'm twenty miles from home I seem to get a little bit panicky about the same process, my confidence disappears and I get all fingers and thumbs and the relationship between wheel, tyre and tube suddenly feels a bit of a mystery although I do eventually manage.
Maybe it's a feeling of vulnerability issue? Anyone else experience this?

Yes of course we all do - the solution is to become comfortable with the process. In your case I would suggest that you try to recreate the situation where you feel comfortable - take the garden chair and radio along with you and commandeer the nearest garage and you'll largely recreate that karma.

Cheers for that sage advice. ^_^
