So had my first puncture today, had a spare tube but my pump broke, so I was screwed either way.......but could I hell get the tube and tyre back on. Any tips for getting tubes and tyre on in a short time. I'm a total beginner so please treat me as stupid

Some great videos on YouTube. Watch repeatedly then practice at home.

Why call yourself stupid we all struggled in the begining ! and just as @Davos87 says pratice makes perfect so just keep doing it at home with the kit you would have with you and before long it gets to be second nature well almost lol, plus those co2 things are also damed handy and take up less space than a pump !

Yeah I'm not sure I have the pump on right.........my bike pump has a little plastic valve thing in the centre which basically stops the innertube valve getting any air in it

Yeah looks that way, it was a draper pump. I have a halfords track pump do ill bang another tube in, I was trying to fix it by the side if the road, pretty embarrassing not been able to get the tyre back on ( bike is currently sat with front tyre on without a tube as it was pretty impossible to get the both of them on)

The trick is to push both tyre walls into the middle of the wheel. There is a groove which will make it easier to fold over the final section of tyre.

I finish by bouncing the wheel on the ground in a few spots (squeezing as you go), add 2 pumps of air and repeat. It should move the inner tube if it got trapped under the tyre.

If this guy can fit M+ tyres without levers than any other tyre will be child's play

Ok it's impossible
Hi, don't beat yourself up!
If you have new tyres, specially the "puncture protection" ones, the first time it's hard to change an inner.
Try a "rocking" motion pulling the bead into the rim.
You'll get there, just when you do make sure the tube is not trapped, or all the work is for nothing!
Slightly inflate first, then pull/push the tyre again against the rim, if you see a bit of inner tube protruting, push it in with your fingers, then inflate a bit more, check again.
Good luck, you'll get there!
