Puncture Proof Tyres

Conti GP4000s on mine. Not had a single puncture since putting them on. Had Gatorskins before that, and they were puncture free too.

The ones that came on the bike were puncturing almost every ride after they had been on it for a month.

Durano + get my vote, grippy and quick. As said before not cheap but a good tyre to have in combination with an Alfine hub
BTW the outfit in the link - service was excellent. Ordered late afternoon and still took delivery next day.

Conti Gatorskin Hardshells. Not cheap or that light, but tough as hell and roll OK. although not as fast as Ultremo DD's. DD's cut up badly in rain soaked sortive in July.

I've used Michelin Krylions for over 3,000 kms without a puncture (he says, touching wood!)

Avoid Spesh Roubaix tyres, very soft rubber which pick up every sharp flint & thorn they find

I'm using Bontrager Racelite Hardcases http://www.allterrai...uct/119612.html
and they are very good, I'll probably jinks myself now, I haven't had an actual puncture since last August. I had a problem with a very old tyre, over two years old, on the fixed with side wall damage, had to replace the tyre, and a problem with spokeholes that hadn't been deburred on the kilmeston, I had to check and debur both wheels myself. Apart from those problems nothing this year.

i'll second that, been riding round country lanes on mine since october not one puncture, I also spend a few minutes digging out bits of flint etc after each ride.hardshells at parkers £22.95

Thanks for all the replies.

Go Outdoors are selling Raleigh puncture proof tyres vastly reduced to less than a tenner.

Any experience or thoughts on those?

Thanks.

Another vote for Gatorskins...

I've done about 1000 miles on mine, on some crappy roads and some lumpy sportives, and, touch wood, no punctures thus far...

I got mine in a sale at Edinburg Bicycle Co-op for about £18 each I think.

That point above about checking tyres after rides is bang on. I had continental sports tyres on my bike at first and about 6 months in I started getting one slow puncture after another in the rear tyre. Thought it was bad luck at first but when I started checking the tyres carefully the number of tiny flints, metal shards and glass splinters embedded in them was unbelievable.

I changed to Marathons (not 'Plus') on the back tyre (I still have one of the Continentals on the front) and so far so good. I've just ordered some Marathon Plus MTB tyres too - came to over £65 for a pair so not an investment to be undertaken lightly.

I've just fitted a pair of Durano Plus to my commuter tonight. Not too bad to get on and I've heard a lot of good things about them. Won't be chucking my spare tubes or patch kit away just yet but will let you know how I get on around the mean streets of London...

I got 'em off ebay from High on Bikes for £55 for the pair - 700x25s. Turned up quickly, just like the other stuff I've ordered from them!
