I know this subject has probably been done to death but, I suffered my first puncture on my road bike yesterday, so I am thinking of getting some 'puncture proof tyres' I really can't really be bothered with all that messing about by the roadside in the cold and the wet.

Can anyone recommend whats best please?

My tyre size is 700x v 25

What about price and where is the best place to buy them? Are they easy to fit?

Thank you.

Virtually no tyre is puncture proof. A lot of it is down to luck. I ran cheap tyres for 1500 miles with no issues, spent money on puncture proof tyres like you're planning to do then had two flats in 3 days.

They don't exist

But some excellent puncture resistant ones are Schwalbe Marathons and Schwalbe Durano+

I used Marathons on my CX bike for commuting, and I use Durano+ on my fixed and they are also going on my Peugeot build project as well, but the buggers aren't cheap, especially the +'s that sem to have gone up recently!

MARATHON

DURANO+

I'm not suggesting Wiggle are the cheapest, but at least you know what to look for so you can shop around.

They can be a bugger to fit, especially the Marathons, but those in particular are as much fit and forget tyres as you're ever likely to get

[EDIT] Oops, seem to have crossed with Ian there ^

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
Punctures happen. Carry a spare tube (or two), a pump and patches etc. Learn how to take off and replace a wheel and change a tube. It's not hard.

One of the best things you can do to avoid punctures is to check your tyres after each ride and dig out any embedded little flints etc. I find this a couple of minutes well spent.

Very good advice, it's what I do also. You soon get in the habit of checking. And can save you a certain future puncture

I used Vittoria Rubino Pros for year round commuting in Cornwall, and never had a puncture. They're easy enough to get on and off as well, if you ever do need to - I gather some of the others can be quite a struggle.

I use Bontrager All Weather Hardcase tyres on my commute. I have done over 2000 miles with no p's yet! Touch wood.

One morning I heard a ping, ping, ping noise. When I stopped I found a nail in the tyre which was knocking on the front fork every revolution. I nervously pulled the nail out expecting a rush of air but it had not pierced the tyre and 3 months later it's still fine.

Marathon Plusses are great - I've had one flat on them in 2 years and I think that was the inner tube finally dying gracefully (i.e.; not a puncture due to debris etc).
I have a Brompton though so my experience is with the small, fat ones
