They have a place. Usually this sport general population of CC isn't it.

Ohhh thanks for the info clearly all the supplements are a waste off money then :/

I started using protien and carbohydrate shakes, to add to my daily diet this year. I do struggle with eating, so they're a godsend to me. My speed and endurance has gone up ten fold since using them on a daily basis. They are no miricle answer, they don't give you instant fitness... you still need to work hard to make any gains but my body feels a lot happier.

My brother (not a cyclist) has been using protein shakes and losing some weight and tells me he has much more energy. He does seem to have more energy at work and is slimmer. He has given me some of them to try but I haven't yet. I have been watching what I eat a lot closer since August and have been losing weight with the cycling and more careful eating. I may give the protein shakes a try when things warm up a little more. The ones I have are supposed to be mixed with skim milk I think.

Not quite sure I Understand what your asking? stop worrying and get out and ride! I started using shakes because I have been underweight for 20+years. Before using them my eating pattern was non-existent ( some days I would eat and others not at all). Since using them I have found my regular appetite is much better and I eat breakfast and tea every day (as I say a big step forward for me). Most days I struggle with appetite for lunch so I use a protein shake at lunch time, to substitute a meal, and after my tea I have a carbohydrate and protein shake, as I don't think my meal is big enough for my level of activity.

Post ride, if it was a long (for me) ride, 30+ miles I have a recovery shake, or if I have ridden at a high intensity for me. I like the article on milk and will see how that works for me post ride. There were a few other articles I saw on that forum too, including advise that you need around 1.2 -1.4g of protein per kg of body weight, which I think means I need less protein shakes and more carbohydrate foods/shakes. I could probably work out more accurately what my daily nutrition needs are and maybe I will, but today my spare time is being spent cycling ;)
