I do have some empathy with that view, but at least Suntour were cable of bestowing their gear with a stylish, if slightly workmanlike, aesthetic. That's something Shimano have always struggled with.

Eight-hour, last night I rubbed the primer coat down so it's nice and smooth. Just need to wait for more clement weather then itll be time for more paint and pictures.

I haven't forgotten about this. It's just been on hold while my bikes were moved to specialist new premises at a secret locationnin my back garden. Expect an exciting update in the next few days

Paint applied. Sexier than Dr Alice discussing Neanderthal mating rituals.

Paint will need to cure for a while. That's fine, plenty of components to clean and prep in the meantime.

Frame hanging up in the bike workshop while the paint cures.

Front and rear canti hangers are rusty and crusty. New ones are easy enough to come by but I dont want to lose sight of the fact that its nearly 4 decades old. So, ive cleaned them up with a cup brush on a drill and sprayed them with clear lacquer, so theyre clean and tidy butnobviously aged, and won't rust again in a hurry.

I couldn't help myself. Bottom bracket very carefully refitted.

I need to clean and service Mrs D's road bike, so definitely no more messing fot a week until the paint is hard as I have only one work stand.

I always fit some shiny bits as soon as possible, it makes you feel like you’re making some progress
