where has anyone said this, can you name the source please

Show me somewhere on the BHIT or Headway websites or literature that mentions training, maintenance or road skills...... The single agenda precludes these from the discussion, look at the events they hold. The AA handing out helmets, the insurance company breaking eggs to frighten children. They all allow these children to do the above by making no attempt to address these important issues. They are guilty by omission.

Now lets raise the real question from my post...

Is the fact that compulsory helmets are excluding youngsters from training that is shown to be effective (RoSPA claims untrained children have 3-4 times as many accidents as trained) and thius endangeringthem an acceptable position?

A cycling helmet may save you in a minor accident as would a woolly hat, or a diving helmet filled with expanding foam, but only if you have the right kind of accident, it may even in some cases contribute to your injuries, you cannot legislate against evey possibility, but eventually the government will try, if the media or a campaign by a grieving family pushes them to act.

Canteloupes are good....

Bang your head against a wall and then repeat the experiment wearing a canteloupe.

Which hurts less?

Unequivocal proof that wearing a canteloupe will reduce pain!

so you consider a woolly hat the same protection as a cycle helmet, very strange
That's not what he said. That's not even close to what he said. That's your specific spin and (IMO) very blinkered reading of what he said.

There are circumstances in which a cycle helmet may save you. There are also circumstances in which a wooly hat may save you.

Consider primary safety as well as secondary safety, the times when a helmet may cause / increase injuries (rotational injuries could be increased by a helmet but also could be reduced by a wooly hat) and the times when you are so ruddy cold (shown to be worse than drink/driving) that you lose concentration and wouldn't have had the accident in the first place if you'd been wearing a wooly hat rather than a helmet.

Not that strange at all, IMO.

Now the next question...

1. Bang your head against a wall
2. Repeat wearing a canteloupe
3. Repeat wearing a woolly hat

Does a woolly hat reduce the pain more or less than a canteloupe?

Which should I wear when banging my head against a wall?

I don't want to get involved in this debate.

It would just end up with me banging my head against a brick wall....

A poster child of BHIT is Troy Parker who was killed when hit by a car. He had ridden off the pavement in front of the car because the brakes on his BMX were broken. The coroner said:

""The law is very strict when it comes to cars but there are no laws when it comes to bikes. It is up to owners to ensure bikes are safe. The consequences at not getting round to routine maintenance can, and in this case were, tragic and fatal."

So did BHIT campaign for parents to keep their children's bikes properly maintained? Nope they and Troy's mother campaigned for compulsory helmets instead so that when children have accidents on poorly maintained bikes, they might survive the accident. Sums it and them up really.

OK, but I don't see where it suggests that 2b thinks that.
