Road rash on you knees and elbows hurts when you fall off a bike. Do you protect yourself against that too?

i wear gloves to protect from road rash, ill suffer the knees. Im not likely to be concussed from a knock to the hands or knees so worry less about protecting them

Sorry, I thought you said you wore it to protect from things that hurt, not concussion. Which is it?

Racing drivers wear them as they travel at far greater speed than normal motorists, hopefully, and pedestrians, unless its me uphill, travel more slowly, we are trying to filter out the RTAs from the RTAs with helmets, and it is suprising that they do not show these statistics for cyclists.

Racing cyclists wear them as they travel at far greater speed than normal cyclists ?

Again there is a major misconception here.

We should be doing the opposite.

Helmets are no designed for RTAs. but for the low impact acidents that are common to both pedetrians and cyclits.

Filtering out these types of accident is going to effectively remove the area where helmets are most efective!

However if you wish to look at RTAs only then why not?

According to one study by Birmingham University 80% of fatal injuries in pedestrian and cyclists are "due" to head injury (although this does not exclude otehr injuries as a contributory cause, just includes those where the head injury is listed as the primary cause).

The present trend to show pedestrians having similar or higher incidence of serious head injury than cyclists. so if we acceptthis argument then pedestrian helmets are again more significant than cycle helmets in reducing head injury

Any chance of pointing out the post where you claim I was making things up or are you still avoiding this false allegation?

i dont think they are mutually exclusive. The head is more sensitive and can lead to concussion, therefore i wear a helmet to protect against this should i fall from my bike

In post 122 you claimed I was making things up, you have now been asked on a number of occasions to explain this unfounded allegation and continually failed to do so.

Please either (as repeatedly requested) explain this accusation or apologise.

So its concussion you are wearing to to protect against then? Only you seem rather confused about it. But you seem to treat protection from things that hurt as optional so it can't be that.

as i say i dont think its mutually exclusive, you can protect from hurt and concussion at the same time. it isnt a choice of wearing a helmet to protect from 1 or the other

Like choosing between helmet compulsion and having untrained children on the road who's parents had wanted training for them but were refused as they didn't have a helmet?

thye couldnt be that bothered if they chose not to follow the rules and therefore not have their children trained
