Just thinking out loud, not wishing to politicise the thread, but I do wonder if the likes of Premium Bond / Lottery winnings will be in the sights of the Chancellor as a tax raising stream.

Wouldn't have thought it was worth the effort? even a 25% tax is not going to raise big numbers (the Public Sector wage awards so far are approximately £11billion)

Gordon Brown cooked that goose.

Prize fund rate used to be set simply by reference to National Savings interest rates. GB changed that by reducing the prize fund by an amount representing a notional average tax rate.

So, yes PB payouts are tax free in the hands of the Bond Holder, but are effectively already taxed. Though there is no line in the Govt Accounts recognising a tax stream.

Stop stealing my winnings! Nothing for me again!! Don’t mind too much as my savings are spread between fixed rate, variable rate and PB. I’m looking forward to a nice tax refund next year when I file my SA with HMRC.

I think this is the month the prize fund was due to drop so not too bad.

Like you I have the maximum invested, and over the last year I have had £225 back, so not a bad return.

I've had over £1500 back over the past year. Another £250 this month.

£100 for my dad's estate (likely the last as he passed away last November and they can only collect for a year post mortem)
