Always a couple of mobility scooters outside?

The partner of someone from the shop floor was usually there for breakfast. He'd walk in, despite being officially disabled due to COPD. You'd see him after his first "breakfast" having a smoke outside the front door. Heck it's a trek for me to go that far so how much of an effort he makes with less than 50% lung function??!!!

It is like patients in wheelchairs smoking outside hospital entrance (with their oxygen masks around their necks. Addiction in its worst showing, pure and simple.

We had two post offices (now down to one) in the small town I live in. The one now converted to a er hum! Thai massage parlour  was I think they used to call a sub post office. It sold stuff like tins of beans, washing powder etc. I always got a whiff of fry ups when I went in the place. I remember going in one day and the bloke behind the counter appeared with what looked like a half eaten bacon and fried egg sandwich on a plate while chewing the other half, asking what I wanted. How totally unprofessional was that I ask!!🧐

Asking what you want for breakfast is unprofessional?

I must agree.

i long for the days when they wore smart unifroms, called customers Sir or Madam, and one could establish the seniority of staff at a glance from the amount of gold braid with which they were adorned.

Our big one shut in Plymouth city centre years ago, but there are still a few dotted around the suburbs. I do understand why they may be costly to run, and many people who use them are not handing over much money, if any. We have a local post office inside a "Premier" corner shop, which is excellent. I have only used it to return online purchases, but as they sell loads of other stuff I have bought the odd loaf of bread or a drink in there. I do see a lot of people using it, especially older people, so perhaps that is a better business model rather than a large dedicated post office in a premium rent area?

You can usually do basic banking in them too, and given most towns have now had banks closed as well, it’s a bit worrying.

This is very relevant, it’s a nightmare to do any banking these days, for a lot of older people, this will make life a lot more difficult

Looks like the one in Morley is set to go, utterly ridiculous they keep the vans there, have a sorting office out the back, and has been there for what seems like forever, sometimes you need to deal with a person for some things, another sad loss on the high street

Not post office stuff, but postman stuff so it'll still count.:okay: I ordered a bottle of men's fragrance online last night at about 3am. While looking out my kitchen window at about 2pm this aft' a postal van parked up outside my flat. The driver got out, had a root at the parcels in his van then took out a small box, the same size as a packaged bottle of fragrance would be. My thoughts were "Heck, how fast was that! Let's get down them stairs to wait for him knocking"!!:hyper:I waited behind my door for him to knock, but after a minute or so he didn't knock, so I went outside to see where he was. There he was sat on the floor of his van, eating what looked like a salad he'd brought from home for his lunch!! Yes, the 'parcel' I was getting all excited about was actually his salad lunch!!

You buy your Old Spice online?

not sure what to think of this. i very rarely go into post offices but if one closed near me would i miss it? not sure
you can now pay for postage online and have the postman pick up your letter or parcel from your front door. i use it all the time and it's great. innovations like this will have had an effect on footfall i'm sure.
