Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
I couldn't report anything to Kingston BC, as their wonderful online map tool kept telling me that an issue with their stretch of the Portsmouth Road had already been noted, and therefore I couldn't report another issue for the same stretch - of course I've no issue what has been reported already, it could be completely unrelated but their website couldn't cope with telling me this.
Is that the answer to "Why do people use FixMyStreet instead of council POS websites?"? Sounds like the silly system Norfolk have switched to, where reports keep getting closed with something like "we are aware of the problem and have decided on a course of action" without saying what that is...

Could well be - although in fairness I used the path coming home this evening for the first time in a week, and pleased to report it's been cleaned of leaves and the rubbish. A good start but will keep an eye on it as the weather and final works progress.

Despite the fact I couldn't seem to get the Kingston BC website to report any issue, my email through to the original cycle Kingston email address seems to have been passed on. Response just received:

"Thank you for your email regarding the cleansing of the newly constructed cycle lane on Portsmouth Road in The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, which has been passed onto me for response.

We are planning to incorporate the cycle lane into the fortnightly mechanical sweeping schedule, and will be operating a test to fully risk assess the proposed procedure to both cyclists and operatives. The on-going works to the cycle lane has unfortunately made it difficult for us to arrange the test and incorporate this section of the public highway into our cleansing regime as quickly as we would have liked. Additionally, before we were able to agree the test and proposed cleansing regime Veolia required written permission from the Highways Authority to access the cycle lane, which was granted at the end of November.

During the autumn, some areas of the Borough are particularly prone to large amounts of leaf fall that may quickly become hazardous outside of the usual sweeping cycle. To combat this Veolia are required to provide additional resources to clear leaves from the public highway over a ten week period (which started on 7 November). Portsmouth Road is not traditionally included in the leafing programme but this will be reviewed going forward if we feel the fortnightly cleanse outlined in the paragraph above is not sufficient.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us 0208 547 5002 via our Contact Centre. It is open Monday – Friday (09:00 – 17:00).

Kind regards,"

Very pleased to have received a response, and a comprehensive one at that. Cycle path does appear to be much clearer than it was, but I'll be monitoring and now at least have a benchmark of what they are proposing to do to go back against.

Still to hear from Surrey CC on their section of the Portsmouth Road....
