Ratchet screwdrivers.

I find this sort really useful and have done for years. The old Stanley Yankee ones are pretty good too. The cheap and nasty sets with hundreds of bits - not so much

The remaining walky-talky having dropped the other one in the Grand Union canal.

I had a similar thing with a single scuba diving flipper. I sold it on fleabay assuming someone else would be in the same boat but it went for 10 pence or whatever sadly. I decided to upgrade to a different make so it wasn't worth keeping - I would have kept it if I'd bought same again

Given I learnt to do a hill start nearly 40 years ago, an automatic hill start feature doesn't really make my life easier and is simply another thing to go wrong and / or get cross with

I learned 47 years ago, but auto hill start is a nice luxury I enjoy, had them for over 10 years now without problems. I have in the past had a handbrake cable snap though.

You're not a real driver till you've driven six months without any handbrake at all.

You kids, huh!

Handbrake - luxury. I did several months in a car without a clutch !

Strictly speaking it would work if you bled it, but by the end of your journey you had to change gear without the clutch. More to the point you had to start and stop without the clutch as well. It can be done, but I wrecked the synchro so had to double de-clutch thereafter after I replaced the whole cylinder rather than just the seals (again). When I later took the gearbox off for an unrelated reason I saw the bronze synchro rings had great chunks off them, but I made one OK gearbox out of two ropey ones. I think I reduced the life of the starter motor too - but cheap and easy enough on an old ford.

I found it a nice feature when towing, it's controlled by the ABS module on ours.
