Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
They can't spell. It looks like a hybrid from a brand I've never heard of, with fairly low-end parts. I'm surprised they think it's only 11.5kg (my similar Revolution-branded hybrid is more like 15.5), but then I see it comes with "lightweight" wheels and narrow tyres which seem like a strange choice. http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/products/revolution-hybrid-1-16 is just £50 more, but has better wheels, plus mudguards and rack that are worth more than £50 extra. It still might not be the right bike for you, but they've a shop in Manchester if you're near there, so you could go look and try. The other place that often gets suggested for their own-brand bike deals is Decathlon, if you've one nearby.

Which manc-blackpool charity ride? How far, how fast, how hilly?

Looks ok for the money, if I was looking and had limited funds it would fit the bill.
Aluminium 7005 alloy frame
700c wheels with lightweight alloy rims
40mm Deep Section Double Wall
racing tyres size 700x 25c
It looks as though it has road bike gearing and its all shimano components, can't go wrong at that price.

It's £30 dearer - Subway 1 £249. You have comeback if it goes wrong, and it's a well respected cheap commuter bike. I wouldn't touch the Teman - might look flash, it's not. Bag of poop. Carrera bikes are good. My kids have them, and my son's Vengence MTB has done Black and Red runs for a £330 bike.

Carrera looks like the one. I'm in Manchester and near a decathlon so I'm gonna look. £300 is probably max but main aim is to cycle over severn bridge and into cornwall. Camp all the way. Try using same bike.

@wingnutter with your budget have a look at the second hand market , shame you are not a bit nearer to me in Northamptonshire as i always have second hand bikes for sale that would be ideal for your needs
