My son is nearly 12 and wants to get his ears pierced. No idea where that came from, but he is obsessed with Anime and some of the characters do wear ear rings! I have no objections really, but everyone else thinks he's too young

Claire's will do it with parental consent at that age, but they'll use a stupid gun so I'd never recommend that.

Legit places won't go near him if he's under 16, though might if you went along with.

You can get all the kit you need online to do it properly and safely. A lobe really isn't difficult. Steady hand, gently clamp, pop a needle through, slide the jewellery in (make sure it's a bit too big at first to allow for swelling) and you're done.

I don't think so, but it's your son and your decision.

Does his school have any policy on jewellery?
Lots of my friends had earrings in the 90s. They have all dispensed with them long ago. The good thing about ears is that they tend to heal over leaving only a very small scar.

Yes that's what I'm getting him to check first. I've seen girls with ear rings so I would hope the same rules apply for boys, even if he has to put a plaster over it for PE.

Don't do it @Electric_Andy . He's too young and I'm sure the school also has rules about this.
Just tell him it's illegal at his age and that's the end of it

Funny story. His mum would usually be against anything like this, and had I suggested it she would have said no in an instant. But bizarely she has said that if he wins his up-coming athletics event then he can have it done

That's the new tool in the Scottish Police Force's armoury. They use it on the brighter recruits in training.

Apart from an earring when I was a lot younger, I've never had any other part of my body pierced for fashion.
Who in their right mind goes into a shop, or whatever they call the premises, and asks someone to stick a sharp thing through their tongue, nipple, or even more scary, their todger?!!

IDK.
My opinion is that those who indulge do so out of a need for an identity, a sense of belonging, a tribe if you will. The only difference between them and other fashion trends being you can change a hairstyle in a visit to your hairdresser, a tattoo or piercing not so much.
