Pedals with flats on one side are a useful pain.

The only hang one way - so either the clips or the flats aren't that available when setting off...

I've been using an old pair of Shimano MX30's for the last year (MTB pedals). The pins give a bit more grip than most flat pedals - but can eat in to rubber soles!

wellgo do a much cheaper version BTW

Yes, but if the OP doesn't want clippy pedals he probably couldn't care less whether they're easy to turn over or not!
Get the cheap Tesco ones, and a bottle of red while you're in there. You know it makes sense!

I use them, and don't find them a pain. I don't even register any longer that my feet have had to turn them over.

As Mr. Paul has said turning the pedal forward for the clip side or backwards for the platform side becomes second nature after a very short time indeed.

Bollocks are they easy to use. What guff, you set of cocks.
They're an absolute nightmare, more so than traditional single sided road pedals as they're not even significantly weighted! You end up kicking frantically at them half the time, and the other time with one on the SPD side and one on the non-SPD side thinking 'that'll have to do'.
The absolute worst genuine work of crapola ever to disgrace the cycling world.

In fact I think you only recommended them to annoy me. Is it really worth having Steve Austin suffer the misery of single sided non-road SPD pedals just so you can have a pop at my penchant for quality? Actually, thinking about it, yes - it is, really.

The only PEDALS worth using are LOOK pedals, who needs shoes you can walk in, it only tempts you to do heretical things liking walking into supermarkets still wearing a helmet, or thinking it's ok to mix with normal folk while wearing any item of lycra
