Once again, fab advice from CC.

Going to go for the M520s and then get the little reflector bit to put in them so they are flat on one side and clipless on the other for now. Sounds like the perfect solution and one I would never have come up with on my own.

Wish I had my bike now. Won't have it till next weekend and never had the patient gene! I suppose it gives me more time to spend money on cycling gear in the meantime!

BTW - Shimano do a set of cleats (SH56 - I think) which are multi-way release. As the name suggests these will release in more ways than just kicking your heel outwards. They'll even release with a sharp upwards pull - useful in an emergency.

I knew I needed shoes - didn't know I would need to buy cleats to - or are these just special ones?!

Might need to remortgage at this rate!!

I'm new to clipless and fell off for the 2nd time today, too low a gear and not enough momentum starting but it doesn't hurt. When you fall over because you're not used to clipless it's not like a big fall just a topple over. I'm a right wuss but I wouldn't worry about it and go for the cover which allows you both options. Although I do find the shimano one a bit slippy. There was another one rec. on another thread soemwhere..

I must be doing something wrong! Last time I fell off, it really hurt! I had unclipped my left foot, turned right to stop, lost my balance & fell right:blush:

I did my very first ride with clipless without a needing to unclip at all. It was brilliant an hour out on the bike, i think it was about 14 miles. couple days later I did the classic unclip left foot bike falls right. bit of a scuff to bike and knee no major damage. It;s all apart of the learning process.

Been clipless for a few days now, you can transfer lots more power to the pedals and there so comfy, i unclip my left foot leaving my right foot cliped in, all most lost it a couple of times lol.

How can you possibly have almost lost it. It's attached to the end of your right leg - ALWAYS ;)

I've just ordered one of these too. Can't wait for Monday's delivery at Evans

I think I want to change the tyres straight away though since I'm only going to be using it on roads, for the time being at least.

Any recommendations? What size will the rims take? I think I know the answer to that, if I read Sheldon Brown right can go down to 25mm, am I best going for that smallest size?
