If you can send me the dimensions of the extenders, I can run some stress analysis on different steels.

Thanks for the response. I am away for the weekend so cannot access the extenders. I can confirm that the design is similar to that shown in the OP photo. The shoulder between the male and female section is square, not tapered or radishes. I will send dimensions when I can but I'm already thinking that perhaps these are something I could do without!!

When speaking of billet steel, they may be referring to centrifugal casting. That would be quite strong as a material application. But I doubt that would be used here.

They don't look any different to how the threaded part of any pedal spindle seem to exit from the body of the spindle.

Something metallurgically wrong at manufacture?

The "male" spigot is 14mm in diameter.
The "female" part is 21mm long, with a diameter of 22mm. As stated, the shoulders between the two are square-not tapered or radiused.
Thank you
But its not a solid piece of metal ,has a hole all the way through!

No, the hole is not all the way through. It is solid other than the "female" section which has been drilled and tapped to a depth of 13mm to accept the stud of the pedal.
The male part that screws into the crank has a hole through it for an alan key.

I bought these from e-bay. Type in sjx-motorsport-pedal extensions and it should come up. This is an American company so the price is quoted in dollars (about $14-00 I think).

I would upload some pictures if I knew how!!!

This listing includes one set (right and left) of bicycle pedal extenders that can be used with your bike pedals to extend the position of the pedals outward by 21mm (0.825"). For those bike riders with a naturally wide stance this product is essential to prevent knee strain and rubbing against the rear tire/frame. The set includes a right and left handed set of pedal extenders that can only be used on cranks with 9/16" thread (most common). All pedal extender sets are made from hardened billet chrome-moly steel and coated with black oxide coating for protection. Right and Left extenders are easily identifiable with "R" and "L" markings. Remember: Right extenders must be tightened clockwise and left extenders must be tightened counter-clockwise.
