I rode End to End for the first time when I was 75 with a mate who was two years younger. We were camping and completely unsupported. Admittedly we took 29 days to do it but I make no apoligies for that. My advice to older cyclists wanting to do this ride for the first time is to know your limitations and plan your trip accordingly, but don't be put off or you will regret it.

At nearly 69, I walked briskly up a steep path on a large Scottish hill yesterday, barely able to keep up with a 77 year old in our party. She hopes to come mountain biking with us on a 3-4 hour ride later in the week!
Yes, but also doctors can have some pretty wrong ideas about cycling. Multiple doctors maybe!
I did LEJOG in 2019 when I was 66.
Luckily, I planned it then as the following year the world closed down!
Personally, I wouldn't want to join a group but that'll be your choice.
Go for it.. You know your capabilities and how far a day you want to ride (and how many days you have to allocate to it, too!)

I hope that wasn't this week: the weather has been a trifle poor lately!
I do agree - if you can do it unsupported, camping and with no desperate time constraints, I don't see why any age would be an issue.
Maybe one day, I will do it again. I feel like JoGLE might be worth an effort - the hills are far worse down south, but by the time you'd get there, you would be stronger!

Yes. Their climbing was underestimated for logistical or sightseeing reasons I assume. I am pretty sure you could do it with much less climbing. But it is a long long ride, supported or not.

Has the poster signed up? This afternoon I did, inspired by this thread. I will be 68 next August when I attempt it, will hope to raise money for the cancer charity The Big C in Norwich. Having signed up and told my kids, there's no going back, need to get fit again.

A friend of mine, mid 60s, did London to Paris with an organised tour. Not Pedal Britain but I think similar. She absolutely loved it.
