Pearl Izumi Tour Series

Went to see this in Stoke last night. A good event with a nice atmosphere, but I thought slightly disappointing crowds. OK, it was a cool evening after earlier heavy rain, but there was a good field out and a tiny course, so plenty of action.
Katie Archibald was outstanding in the women's Matrix Fitness race and led all the way mopping up every award. She had just taken part in the Tour of Britain. I remembered being impressed with her at Manchester in the World Cup series.

Jon Mould similarly get away and led for most of the race, lapping much of the field. He looked to be suffering a bit by the end, but a gutsy effort against a strong field. Highlights in ITV4 tonight at 10.30, I believe.

On a related note, just a reminder that I did put up a thread for the Premier Calender etc. here: http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/th...series-thread-and-other-british-races.151421/

It hasn't been as well promoted as previous years in the media. I would have gone to Stoke if I had known it was on. The others are a bit too far from me.

Be in Barrow for tonight's round, as they have closed the roads from 6am this morning unlike all the other national crits I have been to. At lunch time I am off out to blast round the course. :becool:

Great to see how quickly Katie Archibald has came on since been given the chance. She was good before as an amateur but since she joined the development programme about 6 months ago she has progressed to become one of the strongest riders in the GB pursuit squad - no mean feat considering who her team mates are.

Barrow circuit appears to go round clockwise - expect to see everyone except Americans and continentals crash out

Completely agree. I knew nothing of this. Indeed I would have suggested cycling there after work.

I spent the whole day marshalling at Barrow race yesterday - manning only road crossing point to the inside of the circuit, down by the Madison/Genesis team bus. Compared with the constant verbal abuse I took at the ToB last year in Kendal doing a similar job, Barrow was very good natured, and most enjoyable.... plus I got to be inside the spectator fencing for the whole event  Superb getting so close to the action

Madison supplied a great goody bag too

We were at Barrow last night and had an awesome time!! Unfortunately was a mad dash from work with the kids so couldn't sneak in a quick spin lol. But we had a great time and were about 30m from the finish on the town hall side...what a blast!! Can we do it again next week lol

Well for once my local town has done itself proud! WELL DONE BARROW - IN - FURNESS.

I have been to many crits and can say the atmosphere at Barrow was up there with the best.

Met and chatted to my hero Sean Yates, my little daughter was presented with the winners bouquet "princess flowers for a princess" as said by all round good Kiwi and sprint prime winner Tom Scully.

She had her Mercx Moteni hat signed by Sean Yates, Deno Dowing, Ed Clancy, Tom Scully, Rodger Hammond, all couldn't have been nicer special mention to the NFTO staff couple of nice guys straight over chatting saying how much they liked the area and for taking the piss out of me on the Cycle 100, kilo sprint challenge as my legs filled with lactic even though I smashed the best time by 7 seconds (hopefully still top time for £25 voucher  )
Pics to follow.
