Has anyone seen the Roubaix 'after-party' photos from Super_bock on Instagram?
Finally a decent use of AI.

I loved them! Best AI yet!

That's weird. I thought the same (watching live); this morning I saw a clip showing the DS* talking to Pog, who wanted a bike swap due to front brake rub. It's possible that I (or the clip editor) confused this with another incident. Whatevs!

*His DS talks exactly like Nandor the Relentless in WWDITS

He definitely changed bikes after the crash. He tried to get the chain on and then the team car came up and immediately got a bike off the roof. Pog also commented he rode the last 35-40km without a computer (he was commenting that his power numbers were the highest he'd ever seen and how hard the race is).

The man who threw the bidon at MVDP has turned himself to the police and said he's "very sorry"

Not quite the guilt trip it may appear.

Apparently he went to the race as a minibus filler with the Matej Mohoric fan club, and the club members had a post race discussion and worked out it was him, made contact, and told him that if he didn't turn himself in, they'd grass.

Nasty, easy to see whose fault it was, but difficult to apportion blame.
If that makes sense.

I make it quite easy to apportion blame. I was immediately reminded of what it's like crossing busy central London streets on foot with slow/stationary traffic. I'll often just trot out into the traffic, and dodge round the cars, but if I'm emerging from the shelter of a bus or van, I'll always stick my head round first to see if there's a cyclist or motorcyclist filtering down (there often is). It's just part of what you do. If you don't do it, you learn quite quickly.

Why it didn't occur to the mechanic to do just that is completely beyond me. It's just stupid. He's on a race course.

So first the Visma Bidon and then the Visma staff member hitting an Alpecin rider. Alpecin should probably send the Visma bus driver some shampoo as a gift. 😉

But wouldn't you slow down if you were riding through a narrow gap past a stationary team car, given that the car is stationary for a reason!
My view on nearly all collisions is that it takes two to tango - both parties were able to avoid the collision had they chosen to.
that doesn't stop one party being MOSTLY to blame ....

The mechanic shouldn't assume that riders will roll through slowly ringing their bells. It's a race.

I agree - but IN A RACE the mechanics are in a hurry. They are part of the race i.e. the slower they move, the later their rider finishes.

The Visma rider had already set off. Mechanic wasn't rushing to deal with a rider, he'd finished. It would make no difference to anyone if the car restarted 30sec later.

It would if the car is needed further down the road. Or if they are delaying riders/cars (of other teams) behind them.

There are a billion reasons, but it boils down to: they are on the clock. OF COURSE they should also take reasonable care, but any idiot can see why sometimes haste takes precedence. A canny rider will consider that mechanics may make bad decisions.
