Waitrose, Tesco, etc. own brands are horrible.
waitrose scotch eggs, paerticularly the posh ones with the runny yolk, are to die for 💌
To clarify, I was talking about a specific product in relation to that comment:
Very dependent on product and taste. I love Kejap Manis (and have it on far too many meals) but only like the branded version sold in Sainsbury (which is called Kicap Manis). Waitrose, Tesco, etc. own brands are horrible.

Although it's moving into outlets, for me there are aspects beyond product eg Customer Service - once I purchased some Waitrose oranges that were dreadful, so bad they went in the compost; next visit to the store I raised it with the Customer Service desk (no receipt, no product) and was immediately offered replacement or refund.

For some products I'll avoid "own brands". Axminster used to be a brilliant tool retailer but a few years ago I purchased one of their own brand mitre saws - rubbish thing that went back (at their cost) for a refund. So now I wont buy and Axminster own brands items which mostly eliminates Axminster as they have increasingly moved into "own prand" product.

Sainsbury's highland single malt, which is half price compared to say Glenmorangie and just the same taste. It even comes in the same shaped bottle.

I did a taste test at home between Weetabix and Asdas oen brand, one of each in a separate bowl.
The Asda brand, had a very very slight difference in flavour, consistency was the same and overall...for me, it simply wasn't worth paying the 2/3 extra for Weetabix.

Sainsbury's wheat biscuits are superior and cheaper than weetabix

Must be a lot of personal taste as I always found Tesco in-store bakery bread very squidgy - too like white sliced bread (regular square slices and in plastic bags., Waitrose in-store bakery bread far better but also Morrison's bin-store bakery bread can be excellent as well.

I spend a lot of time in food factories for work and, as has already been said, see supermarket own brands being produced in big brand name factories all the time.

On the Weetabix thing, I was told many years ago that all the wheat biscuit style of breakfast cereals are made in the same place, don't know if that's still true though.

Tesco dark chocolate digestives are about 77 pence, compared to McVities which are about £1.80. I find both taste the same, but this is after about 7 or 8 pints 🍺, so maybe when not under the influence there is a difference.🤔
