They killed off Guns N Roses, and all the other overblown rock contempories. For that I am eternally grateful.

Yep, absolutely what he said.

In the same way Oasis were responsible for a lot of indie type bands being able to step into the nations eyeline. However as this applies to Coldplay, Keane et al this might not have been a good thing!

Led Zeppelin - Rubbish
Pink Floyd -Tedious
The Doors - Few classic songs but apart from that. Highly overrated. If JM was still alive they would be as laughable as the Rolling Stones are now
Nirvana - Good but would not get a look in if Kurt Cobain hadn't blew his head off
Radiohead - The Bends was great. The rest is debatable
The Sex Pistols - Two good songs and that is it
The White Stripes - Don't get them at all
Out of interest what bands do you consider to be influential/deserving of praise?

ps I think the White Stripes are crap too.

Loads and loads.

However if you could read, you would see the thread is called overrated bands. They are, therefore, bands that I think are overrated.

I don't necessarily dislike them all. Just overrated.

Well I can read, as obviously I have managed to post something at least half relevant.

I realise the thread is called overrated bands but I was just curious as to what bands you personally think are influential as I would say some of your remarks are a tad flippant/ill informed, unless of course you dislike any guitar/rock/indie music in which case we could just put it down to taste (but as you like The Bends I would say is not the case).

But its only music so no need to get panties in a twist.

Got ya!

My real ones are the previously mentioned Pink Floyd and the Doors. Overblown guff the pair of 'em!

Also B. Springsteen and Elvis P fail to float my boat in any way, but I merely feel indifference to these 2 rather than contempt.

My main problem with Nirvana is that they didn't really do anything The Pixies hadn't already done much better.

Queen
David Bowie
Elton John
Any sensitive singer/songwriter (exemplified by that drippy prat (name escapes) who did a song called "You've got a friend")
Nirvana - just boring and generally useless
Muse - technically able but mostly contentless
Boy/Girl bands in fact anything that involves four people in a line singing, the worst example ever possibly being the Stylistics.

My view on the Beatles is that whilst they were indeed very good, not enough credit is given for the production - for those first couple of albums, the quality of sound was head and shoulders above other bands of that era (listen to sounds of the 60's or whatever it is - everything up to around '68 sounds like it was recorded in a shoebox compared to Beatles of the same era.
