It's like a dull ache (similar to my arthritis pain). It was in both knees and above my kneecap, around the front.

On today's ride I didn't notice it at all! Saying that, I wonder if my hips are rocking a little?
I have a definite sore point on my undercarriage!! (not the seat bones, more like a friction, fleshy sore bit).

Let me guess: you don't stretch and have gone haaaaaaard recently?

Obviously, get your position sorted out if in doubt and if the symptoms persist then get it checked out professionally. Sounds like you have irritated the soft tissues supporting the knee (which is quite common)

I do stretch before and after I ride...maybe not enough!
Knees are fine today, during and after riding.
Thinking how much my knees hate walking, I did have to walk yesterday from an appointment, into town, which is all incline.
They were really nagging then, so it may have just been the walk (she says hopefully!)

I think you need to see if there is a pattern only from cycling...a one off isn't really easy to diagnose  We women are also hormonal creatures which can heavily affect joints as I am sure you know !

I have severe arthritis in one knee as a result of an accident many years ago. I find that it gets worse if I don't cycle regularly, but overdoing the cycling also makes it worse! Two cycling specific things that help me:

1 - As @rbreid says, shorter cranks. I'm 6'2" with long legs for my height and the general wisdom is that I should use 175mm or even 180mm cranks, but I find 165mm much comfier.
2 - Knee warmers (something like these) help keep the chill out. I've just bought mine out today:thumbsup:
