It is funny what can happen when you venture into a new (to you) bike shop, I have now ordered a new bike for myself and then one for my beloved. Thanks to the joys of Interest free credit I am now awaiting delivery of a Cinelli Seatta for myself and a Claude Butler for her. A few spec changes to make them suit (tubs and a full size chainset for me and cross levers for her) Roll on Saturday!!!

I am hoping that my beloved will take to the new CB as at the moment she has a 24" wheel 80's bike at the moment and has come on leaps and bounds in the last month or two, she hadn't really ridden since a child and is now outgrowing the capabilities of a sturmey geared bike and wants to go further afield.

Very nearly went for the standard 'clinchers' ummed and arred, thought about it and deliberated, decided to be sensible and get them, then I was asked the question clinchers or tubs and my heart shouted tubs so tubs it was. Can't get away from me tubs, I like em! always have. The roads round here ain't too glass strewn and there is plenty of scope to exploit them. 'Ride it like you stole it' a wise man once said and tubs help this philosophy. You can buy a tub for less than £20 and they pay you back in buckets what does a good clincher cost nowadays?. (I might just have to get a pair of winter wheels later though 'oh dear what a pity never mind' ^_^ sorry dear) No mud guard clearance = tubs in my own admittedly narrow view, go on you know you want to.

I think it's very nice your beloved loves cycling. Mine would, but is unable to ride due to balance issues. But she doesn't mind the bike spending, and I don't mind dues to an athletic club where she can swim. No, I don't want tubs, though. Big fan of the clinchers, since the 70's.
Now that there are folding clinchers, I just can't see the advantage. And if I must, I can repair a flatted tube on the side of the road. Of course, I'm probably missing out on many modern developments of tubulars.

Introducing Olive the Claud Butler, with the obligatory radiator lurking behind her.
