that is my view entirely. People remember cyclists from the TDF because they make their name there.
Look at Thomas Voekler. He will always be remembered for his courage and tenacity in the TDF.
Olympics dont have that "panache".
Does anyone remeber olympics cyclists from 50 years ago? They do from the TDF.
Agree also.

Think of marathon running, what do you think of, the olympics or the London/New York marathon? Same applies for cycling.

Whoooo; ouch!

I think you all have blinkers on? Sorry! Le Tour De France is the most important cycle race in the cycling calendar! The Olympics is the most important sporting extravaganza throughout the world! I love both events equally! Trying to put one event against the other in terms of prowese or importance is ludicrous! To any true cycling sportsman they demand equality in the way we support each event.

BTW, I'm not going to miss watching the 2012 Tour de France!

Let the British Cyclists decide for themselves.

I don't think you get the point of the discussion. The point is that for professional cyclists, a decision has to be made. So for them, they have to put one event up against the other. People are just discussing the kinds of arguments that they might be going through.

Hi FM,

I understood fine, but seems some of the posters also missed the point! Hence the nature of my post. possibly a difficult decision for professional cyclists? Nationalism or?

Maybe the team management will guide them in the direction best suited to them! Possibly they will decide for themselves! Difficult though.

What a bizarre post! It was hardly an excoriating attack was it. Do you have a hidden agenda by any chance? I
think we should be told.

Hey, Moss, the Olympics means more to some athletes in some sports than others. Consider the Olympic Gold in tennis as opposed to winning Wimbledon. Golf, rugby, football and cycling all come into the same category whereby World Cups, grand slams all mean more.

Who remembers the four members of the team pursuit from Beijing in the general public?
Paul Manning is hardly a household name now.
