This is turning into a gluttony thread!

Be careful, don't eat too much Goldie. Don't go filling jersey pockets and panniers with chocolate bars. You really don't need that much carb to sustain you on a ride.

It depends, obviously, on how energetically you ride but, personally and as some who doesn't knock themselves out, I don't take food on any ride less than, say, 4 hours. I'll have breakfast/lunch and take a gel just in case.

I'm in training for a 50 mile run at the moment, so these will be great for getting in the calories. Asda is a 2 minute walk away, so no need for a bike ;)

Thanks all. There are some superb suggestions. The idea of exercising more than I ever have before, but getting chubbier, is perversely attractive. Pistachio barthi is a genius idea! I should have thought of a quick visit to one of Rusholme's fin sweet centres myself. And fig rolls sound absolutely perfect.

Banana, soreen, eccles cake, boiled new potatoes are a real treat! I just take water or watered down guava or mango juice, sometimes I'll stop and buy a can of coca cola if I'm in need of a pick up, alternatively, stop for a cup of tea somewhere.

Good!
It's not just me then. There seems to be some unwritten rule that says that you're not allowed to dislike Peanut Butter, but I'm such a rebel...
Glad you're another one, we should start a group, there must be other Peanut Butter haters out there that feel marginalised.

My other half makes a Brazilian peanut and condensed milk fudge called pasocinha. Little bite sized squares. Great for nibbling on a longer ride. I also like fig rolls and have told the family they are horrible so they don't nick my supply.

+1 for Soreen malt loaf, two slices with a little butter between and a couple of bananas see me through 50+ miles easily enough.

Interested to see the Hugh F-W recipe though, have been meaning to make that for a while, glad that it's good enough to recommend here.
