Or some of the 70's cars. Got quite a few F1 cars in my Scalextric from 70's and 80's. Fav were JPS and the green and white Saudia Leyland Williams.

Must say the GT racing cars are outstanding now, looks, speed and noise.

I have a Saudia Leyland Williams replica team jacket that I picked up in Oxfam for a pittance in the late 90s. Shortly after acquiring it, I wore it to race meeting at Brands Hatch, and the guy running the shop offered me £90 for it back then...

Yes, the JPS livery on the Lotuses always looked smart. As did the yellow-white-black of the Renaults.

Group C cars - well you can't beat a Jaguar XJR-14 for pure looks...

Bitten and Hisses!!!

Some of the high nose cars didn't look too bad. It's all the little wing here and bargeboard there and sprout another aero aid everywhere that bugs me. I like nice clean lines on a racing car. Actually, the concept for the 2021 F1 cars looks really nice - though whether it will stay that way is another matter.

For a modern single-seater, the Gen2 Formula E cars are easy on the eye.

I have the yellow Renault and the Brabus (blue/white) from same time and the later 80's JPS as well as two old early 70's JPS. My dad got me a scalexric when I was 3 in 1973.

It's bizarre looking back at the cars of the time and seeing them plastered with endorsements for such horrid and damaging products.
Thank goodness there are no demonstrably evil companies sponsoring pro cycl... oh

Never mind that. The Durex-liveried Surtees...

Totally bonkers Group B rally cars such as the SWB Audi Quattro, Lancia 037, Metro 6R4, Ford RS200, Peugeot 205t16 (but with modern safety standards)

Oh yes. Current generation of WRC cars kind of leave me cold.

Don't forget the Lancia Delta S4 - as long as they move the bloomin' fuel tank to someplace a lot more sensible. Wonder which bright spark in the Lancia design department thought it was a good idea to sit the driver and co-driver on top of the fuel tank...

I wouldn't mind to see a return to the Super Touring era of the BTCC. Maybe not so much the cars as the current regs make for really good racing, but definitely the drivers.

OK, ok, I know, we've still got Neal and Plato plying their trade, but I'd love to see some of the real wily old exponents of saloon car racing on the grid in the BTCC.

How about some casual racism, jokes about poofters, Mary Whitehouse, Smog, measle epidemics, rickets, words like mong, capital punishment for people later proved to be innocent, asylums, back street abortions, no NHS, outside loos, gas lighting......
I fear you have misread the op to be honest. No one is saying the past was universally wonderful, nor of course is the present or the future. But i applaud the op - you can have some innocent saturday morning fun with the thread i think while contemplating progress and other important stuff.
Must get my thinking cap on to contribute something.
